Notifications are sent out to various community agencies two times a year. All apprentices must complete 144 hours of classes each year. The Apprenticeship Coordinator is available to discuss the program on an individual or group basis.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.  However, a Driver must be 21 to cross state lines.
  • Must be a high school graduate or have GED, and must furnish high school transcript or certificate at time of application.
  • Must possess a valid MN / WI Class "C" driver's license and furnish a copy of it at the time of application.
  • Must furnish driving record for past 5 years, which could be used to determine qualification for application.
  • After notice of acceptance into the program, applicants must pass a physical examination that may include a drug and alcohol screen test.

Selection procedures

All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be notified and placed in the eligibility pool. Each eligible applicant will be interviewed, evaluated and scored by the JATC committee. During the evaluation, the committee will determine the level of experience and competence and may require an applicant to have up to fifty hours of training from an authorized technical college. The number of new apprentices to be accepted shall be determined before starting interviews. The number will be based on the needs of the industry. Applicants will be placed in apprenticeship positions in ranking order. Applicants not selected will remain in an eligibility list for two years.

Work gloves and boots.

Transportation Requirements

Workers must provide own transportation to and from various job sites, which are spread throughout the state.

Hours

Days or evenings. Eight (8) to fifteen (15) hour shifts.

Wages

Apprentices start at 60% of journeyworker's wage, and receive a 10% raise in pay for each 500 hours worked, reaching journey level wages after 2,000 hours worked.

Union Dues

Will be determined based on the apprentice wage and the jurisdiction in which the apprentice works.
