Teamster construction drivers drive a large variety of construction equipment including tractor-trailers; flatbeds or lowboy trailers; mixer trucks; end-dump, belly-dump or side-dump trucks; road repair equipment; fuel trucks; water trucks; and even the job site crew buses. This career is more than just driving. You will learn how to operate the implements on some trucks, such as dragging the fuel hose, attaching the mixer chutes and strapping or chaining down equipment.
The apprenticeship program trains individuals to operate all construction equipment, including but not limited to, dump trucks, belly dump trucks, water trucks, cement trucks, road repair equipment. We also offer training for Local 346 (Duluth) pipeline drivers.
The apprentice and training program began in 1990 and is administered jointly by management and labor to provide uniformed and organized training for Minnesota Teamsters Local 120 (Twin Cities) and Local 346 (Duluth).

To become a teamster, high school students should take construction, building, shop, and trade courses. Knowledge of tools and how to do construction calculations, such as estimating, subtracting, and finding height, width and volume are important.
Completion of high school classes does not count for hours in the apprenticeship program, but the experience and classes taken are valuable in building a student’s skill set and should be discussed in the interview.
